| ->> Maybe this is some special Irish deal, but there's nothing like it in the U.S. I just had to bite the bullet and sell off my Canon gear and then fork over the difference for the Nikon goods. Would have LOVED a 6,000 Euro stipend!!! |

| ->> yes ! your gear plus £6000 ! the kit tends to be 2 d3S, 70-200,24-70, 2 flash guns and a 400mm . nikon uk has had this offer going for the last couple of years and a lot of photographers have taken up the deal. |

What is a nikon camera like, via the mark III canon?
hmmm... what is traveling by car like as opposed to covered wagon across the Great Plains? what is traveling by transoceanic ships as opposed to paddling by kayak across the ocean? what is eating chocolate souffle like compared to eating mud?
I would rather shoot with a Canon A2 and scan the film in a Polaroid Sprint Scan than ever use the mark III again. ;)
but that is just one man's opinion |

| ->> I think they were doing it across Europe ,they were keen to break canons grip in the pro market . They gave the deal to the newspaper and agency or the well known freelance photographers . Once they had the white Canon glass it was all crushed, a lot of long time NIKON users were angry because of the deal and felt they had been pushed to one side in favour of the new NIKON shooters. I have to say that a lot did jump at the deal and the ratio is now 50/50. |

| ->> It is a decent deal from some points of view. However to keep it in perspective there are 2 major agencies in Ireland (Inpho and Sportsfile). One uses Canon and the other Nikon. The income of neither agency is affected by what camera system it uses but may be by restriced budgets due to the world wide recession. I work for an agency that uses Nikon (not Sportsfile) and I use Canon and it does not effect the contracts or orders I have to fill. Inpho were offered a deal from Nikon but turned it down as they felt the financial outlay was not worth it. Most of the guys there used either Mark 2 or 3s and now use Mark 4s. Possibly the camera the Mark 3 was meant to be. You could argue with not a little justification that Nikon have a better camera system but you could also counter argue that it will probably not make much difference to your income. |

Without the 400mm that gear is $15,254US at amazon.com. The 400mm on amazon.com is $9,549US for a total of $24,803US. £6000 is $7,361US, so I'd be interested to see an actual link for this offer. |

->> I think I will have to call Nikon here in Dublin tomorrow, only 6,000 euros would not be bad, as I'm not 100% happy with my mark III camera.
What kind of a kit do you have to give them?
Do they sell the camera cameras off cheap online?
Will Canon do the same deal with Nikon cameras down the line? |

->> i picked up my d3s sat and now have the joy of switching back after five years with canon. no-one will take 1D mk3s so will lose a lot of money sadly, and it'll be a long haul in NZ's depressed market to be able to afford to replace canon 600 and other teles with nikkors, esp as i have, ahem, worked my gear hard over the years.
i wish i could get nikon to do me a deal. |

| ->> Sounds like this is a promotion taking place as things lead up to the London Olympics - this promotion will not exist after the games are over. Similar deals took place in the USA before the Beijing Games, so there would not be a sea of white lenses anymore. |

| ->> Patrick, it isn't actually a new deal. Nikon first offered this to selected photographers in the UK before Beijing, I'm guessing as a way to persuade those disatisfied with the Canon 1DMkIII to change brand. |
