Recommendations for ultra-wide Canon lenses

->> Hello fellow Sportsshooters. I'm interested in seeing what kinds of ultra-wide Canon-compatible lenses you guys are using, what you like and what you recommend. I'm looking for something wider than 16mm that could be used in tight spaces. A fisheye is not something I'm really interested in.
Any brand from Sigma to Canon, I'm interested in hearing your experiences. My uses for this lens would range from weddings to netcams so something pretty versatile. Thanks in advance! |

->> The Canon 14mm is pretty much unbeatable if you can stomach the price. Ver I models can be had here at SS and elsewhere for significantly less than the cost of a Ver II at retail.

Of course, you really only get the full potential of this lens if you are shooting full-frame sensors. I shot the Sigma 14mm long ago when I was shooting Nikon film bodies and loved it but I am doubtful that it will hold up too well to the demands of a high MP sensor. YMMV... |

| ->> Love the Tokina 11-16/f2.8...I'm a Nikon shooter but it is available in Canon mount also. But strictly a crop-mode lens. |

->> Last year I sold my 24-70 for a 35L, and bought a Sigma 15-30 to fill the hole until I could spring for the 14mm...Ultimately, I decided to save the additional $1300 and stuck with the Sigma.
Interestingly enough, it was 8 months before I used the lens, because I assumed since it was only 1/3 of the cost of the 35mm it must be substantially inferior...Now the 35L rarely leaves my house. |

->> 16-35 if canon...14-24 if nikon
the difference in fov between 14 and 16 is almost nonexistent.
I had the canon 14 and the 16-35 and sold the 14 cause there simply wasnt enough difference in fov....and the zooms versatility won out every time even though the 14 was sharper
I wish the nikon 16-35vr that just came out was 2.8 as well. |

->> I use the Canon 14f2.8L constantly, it is a fantastic lens, wide, bright sharp, durable.
I have been playing with the Sigma 12-24f4.5-5.6 and I am surprisingly happy with the lens at 12mm. Its not fast at 12f4.5, but at that focal length it is unmatched, especially on a full-frame body. |

| ->> +1 for the Sigma 12-24 as a full-framer...however I simply won't use it unless stopped down to f11. Not sharp at all until then. Because I rarely shoot full-frame, I almost never use the 12-24, instead opting for the Tokina 11-16 I mentioned above. |

->> f11? pffffffffft. i shot this (slightly nsfw) http://chrislaputt.com/blog/index.php?showimage=68
at 4.5.
the sigma 12-24 is a harsh mistress. it's wonderfully wide but quite a pain to focus in low-light conditions. i'm a bit of a masochist and i try to use this lens everywhere because when it hits, it hits.
the sigma 20/1.8 is great stopped down to 2.8 or so on a full frame. after that you're up to the canon 14mm and the 16-35/2.8
it all depends on your budget. |

| ->> +1 for the 15-30mm Sigma. I bought mine because the Canon wide was a little on the pricey side for me. It has worked well for me. |
