->> Phil, I'm gonna guess that you are running Photoshop CS3. Adobe Camera Raw 5.7 requires CS4 or newer.

->> If you are in a pinch, use DNG converter. Not ideal because it adds a step in your workflow, but works with CS3 and any new camera. From Adobe (ironically), free, reliable and easy to use.

->> The DNG workaround is a good one if you don't feel like updating your Adobe products every cycle. The DNG tool from Adobe has a batch convert functionality with raw embed that gives you an easy way back to native RAW after you upgrade, should you choose to go in that direction.

What is particularly annoying and paradoxical is Adobe obviously has the capability to provide raw support updates to their older products - and probably pretty seamlessly considering how easy it is to update DNG. But they choose not to do so, probably to encourage people to upgrade their products.

->> Phil, seriously, have you considered Adobe Photoshop Lightroom 3 Beta?

At the very minimum, it is currently gratis during the beta period, and runs the same RAW engine as 5.7...

CS3 is now a 2nd gen legacy version, so retrofitting it isn't really somewhere Adobe is going to be spending their time...

->> Not to mention that the ACR engine was significantly modified with v5.0 that renders it incompatible with versions of PS prior to CS4 .... sometimes when technology moves on, legacy compatibility must be sacrificed ....
