->> I see there are some great threads on here concerning time lapse photography, but I'm looking for some specific suggestions on the physical camera setup.
I'd like to do a 3-month time lapse of an outdoor construction site. Any ideas on for mounting and powering the camera? I'm also concerned about the camera's security - that is, what's to stop someone from just taking the camera? How to best protect it from the elements? I was thinking of using a D100, but perhaps a cheap point and shoot is better given the risks?
I would sure appreciate any constructive (pardon the pun) suggestions. Thanks! |

->> If you could figure out how to wire the camera for power, you could make a box similar to the one listed above, but for MUCH less money.
For a project to mount a remote camera on the ground at a horse jumper show, we build a similar box. It was waterproof, and nearly silent.
We just got a Pelican case that fix the camera, plucked out the foam for the camera (and Pocket Wizard) to fit perfectly, cut out a hole in the bottom (which then became the side that the lens pointed thru), bought some clear plexi-glass at Home Depot and used silicone sealer to make it waterproof. We mounted a aluminum bar across the new bottom so we could mount a ballhead for use on a small tripod when necessary. Worked like a charm. We called it the Scorphu (self contained remote photography unit). HAHAHAHA! |

->> There are several companies that provide exactly this service:
www.oxblue.com/
www.earthcam.net/
www.siteisight.com/
to name a few. All offer turnkey solutions.
Google "construction cameras" for more. |
