Small/lightweight flash for traveling

->> Hi there,
I have been traveling for the past two months and brought a 430 EX II with me for my 5d2. I have yet to use it even once and am already pretty sick of carrying it around. Does anyone know of any compact options for a flash that would fire on a Canon body? I do not need E-TTL or anything like that; if there were a few manual levels that would be great. I know Canon makes the 220EX flash, but I would honestly rather have something that is all manual rather than TTL...even an old Vivitar or Sunpak model would be great if I could get it to fire.
I have a friend meeting me in a few weeks so I have a chance to switch out my 430 for something else....size is probably the most important factor to me above all else. I generally like shooting low light all of the time, so this is just for those rare instance where I really need an on camera flash.
Thanks for any ideas,
John |

->> If you're not looking for a major amount of light and just fill I have used a little light that Pelican (yes Pelican Case) puts out. It's a tiny dual LED that puts out some light for being so tiny. I used it quite a few times and it does a fairly cool job in a pinch.

->> i'd suggest either a lumopro LP120, or a second hand nikon sb28.
for manual control, i don't know of any flash that's anywhere near the size of the canon 270EX, but the lumopros and sb28s are smaller than the 430s, and lighter. |

| ->> We use Pelican products in the fire service (flashlights, not flashes) but those things are built like rocks, they will take all kinds of punishment. I own some LumoPro LP120's, and while they are great lights, they aren't the most durable things I've ever owned. The plastic hot-shoe mount can be a bit flimsy, doesn't hold up as well as a metal-bodied speedlite. |

| ->> If you don't need bounce, look for an old Canon speedlite from the FD days. I still use a Canon Speedlite 166a from my first camera, an AE-1 as a slave light. Two auto settings and manual. Not real powerful, but works. |
