->> Now that I've moved to California and am shooting a lot more MLB games, I've decided take what I'm offering on my NCAA basketball code replacement site (http://www.jasonowatson.com/code) and apply some improvements / enhancements to Major League Baseball rosters (I also plan to apply these improvements to other sports as I have time).
First, I want to thank Mike Stone for his code replacement site and ideas -- this truly has been a valuable resource for many.
Also, thanks to everyone who has contacted me over the past couple of years with feedback, suggestions, etc. Many of your ideas and suggestions are now incorporated into this new release.
My MLB code replacement site: http://www.jasonowatson.com/code/mlb
New features:
*** Short code / long name option -- several people have asked to be able to have just a single short code to represent each player. If this option is selected, then codes will look like:
o15 Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Ben Sheets (15)
If this option is turned off, the normal codes apply, for example:
o15 Ben Sheets
tpo15n Oakland Athletics starting pitcher Ben Sheets (15)
etc.
*** Managers and Coaches -- option to include managers and coaches
*** Umpires -- option to include umpires
*** Useful codes -- option to include useful shortcuts for the game of baseball. Examples include:
stad -- includes the stadium name of the home team
1i first inning
d1i during the first inning
hr home run
dp double play
etc. etc.
These are mainly things that I've found to be useful, but figured I'd include it as an option (you can just turn it off if you don't like).
Standard disclaimer: This tool has undergone some minimal testing. Player rosters are coming from ESPN.com, coaches and umpires from MLB.com. Errors may appear. ***You should always check your files for accuracy before using***
As always, I welcome your feedback, bug reports, questions, etc.
Enjoy!

->> Thanks Jason:)
As you know, I've been manually converting my codes to short code/ long name for years and I am one of those who was asking for this... it works great and I appreciate the work! Looking forward to NFL in the fall ;) |

Brad,
Some people like the long codes because they can quickly include or not include the team name, position, number, etc. This is helpful when listing multiple people on the same team.
For example, with the long codes, one could type:
tpt14n and pt7n and get
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher David Price (14) and bullpen coach Bobby Ramos (7)...
whereas with the short code / long name version it would be t14 and t7 which would give:
Tampa Bay Rays starting pitcher David Price (14) and Tampa Bay Rays bullpen coach Bobby Ramos (7)...
Most people would then need to go back and remove the redundant use of Tampa Bay Rays.
At the end of the day, it's a matter of preference, which is why both options are available. :-) |

->> Everyone be sure to hit the donate button at the bottom of the page I have donated in the past to Mike Stone and this year I will be donating to both Jason and Mike.
They make all our jobs easier. Thanks for all the effort with the scripts. |
