I thought this response on the topic from Apple's Steve Jobs was interesting...

->> The hoopla over this controversy is a little overwhelming ...

On one hand there is a legitimate claim that most everyone has and uses a Flash plugin to view that content ... On the other hand we probably should be open to options for creating easier cross platform content.

If we as a industry bucked the system in the days of the digital transformation of photography, would we not have limited our options?

There are many in the "biz" making a very good living today, simply because of the immediate return on imagery we can accomplish thanks to the current technology. Something that would have been prohibitive using film and chemistry.

But mention that Jobs/Apple won't let Flash be used on some mobile devices because it is a resource hog ... and for some, the world is coming to an end. While Adobe offered an option to export files for iPod/iPhone/iPad ... there was no mention as to any performance enhancements to make viewing that content less resource intensive.

I understand and can relate to both sides on this issue. It's too bad that there couldn't be a little more common ground between the two sides ... rather than an all or nothing approach.

It will be interesting to see how this transpires.

At one point there was all the talk about flash websites being useless on the iPad and iPhone. But again I didn't give it any thought, I have a liveBooks site since they started in business and figured they were working on it so I didn't have to. I was right, they rolled out a solution.

Yes maybe it is interesting; but for me as a photographer, I pay attention to what I do and let the people that do this stuff take care of it and sort it out.

One thing I do find interesting... If the iPad experience is the "magazine" of the future, we don't need all this high megapixels for everything, do we? Maybe going back to just a Canon 1D would be just fine.

->> More significant than Steve Jobs' hissy fits over Adobe is the mention of Flash in Grover's "13 Ways..." blog:

In short: It's something to be tolerated rather than something that adds to a site.

->> After recently dropping a grand on a new Flash based website, I was a little concerned about incompatibility with the iPad/ipod. One million iPads have sold in a month which potentially means one million people not being able to see my website while on the toilet. But it looks like my provider has come through and quickly developed HTML5 compatible pages. The HTML5 version doesn't quite look like the Flash version, but it looks really good to me and is better than having a blank page show up.
