->> Any idea how to get an image to the right people that pick the opening double trucks in the magazine? I have a pretty strong candidate IMO. Thanks. |

->> Jimmy Colton edits the "Leading Off" section that you're talking about. He's always willing to take a look at potential images. He gets a LOT of emails every day so don't freak out if you don't hear back immediately. If he thinks you have a winner, he'll be in touch. Send him a small/medium sized jpeg to jim_colton@simail.com |

->> Steve, don't make us wait for Jimmy Colton and the next issue of Sports Illustrated. Show us the photograph :) |

->> Surely whether a photo has been published to the web yet weighs in on whether it leads off in SI? |

->> I proooobably wouldn't put someone's email address out there publicly but hey, that's me.
And yes, they sift through ~3000 images a week for Leading Off so don't be offended if you don't hear back, and better yet, don't keep emailing him to see if he got it. |

->> What Thomas said...every editor I've worked with do not appreciate their email or phone number being posted or given to just anyone. And ditto to the rest he said to! |

->> I was lucky enough to attend a lecture by James Colton and he seems like the kind of guy that wouldn't be bothered by his email being given out, but it would serve as good practice to privately email the contact info in the future. |

->> "Uncle" Jimmy announced his email address at this past year's Eddie Adams Workshop for all the participants and people in the room(~150+). His email, in addition to all the other editors, is also posted to the SI Photo website. I don't see what the problem is. I do see Brandon's point and probably could have just emailed the info to Steve. |

->> I understand that Justin, but he gave it to you guys. The "cream of the crop". When you post it out there on a high traffic website that's regulared by hobbyists and what-not, you're enabling the "cream of the crap".
And yes, his email address is listed on the website but most people don't know to send LO submissions to him via that email.
I'm not saying never pass the information out, just do it privately. This is probably the 20th time off my memory that I or someone else has said the same thing. |

->> And apparently they've been deleted???
I was going to pull up a few of the more heated exchanges from back in the day that look identical to ours but only see one reference to Jimmy's email. |

Thomas, thanks for the enablement. |

->> Point taken Thomas. I rarely post on the message boards unless I have a definitive answer to someone's question. In this case I merely wasn't thinking about it at the time. I'll be sure to email the individual next time. |

->> Just curious - does anyone know the typical criteria for images? Does it need to be higher profile sports? I have images from time to time I'd like to submit but I don't want to always bombard people with e-mails of pictures that I think would make a good addition unless I know the criteria so I can self edit first. |

->> Pretty standard criteria. The image needs to be technically solid and able to grab someone's attention. Think of it as a weekly clip contest with 3000+ entrants. It needs to say "WOW".
As for the subject matter, it runs the full gamut from professional sports all the way down to high school track and field. Even Soap Box Derby has been featured before. |
