->> Sad is more like it...
These days, if you have a cell phone camera or a point and shoot you have a better chance of getting shots or footage. Bust out anything that looks "professional" and people go into a tizzy. |

dangerous, yea, he might gets a photo of these cops looking foolish trying to catch these cows. Only danger is these cops egos being crushed.
Sounds like OSU has some people on a power trip. |

->> Sometimes cops & cows makes for a nice photo ... I managed to pick up an MSNBC Photo of the Week and three awards from the AP for this one back in '99 - http://bit.ly/m0PT2
... the Trooper however was pissed.
The comment from the Police do not seem to add up. If he was not arrested how was he charged? If he was i fact grabbed by someone, other than the police, does he not have a case for assault against that person? If the cops are upholding the law, they should look into the assault allegations the photographer has made against someone else in this incident. |

Best wishes to Alex. |

->> From watching the security camera video on the linked page, it appears that the officer had a point initially about wanting him off the field for safety reasons as the cows can be seen charging people and bowling them over... however, once the shooter complied and moved to the other side of the fence (even though it's not "livestock" grade), that should have been the end of it.
(Steve, I think that photo's pretty hilarious... and I can see why the trooper wouldn't be too happy about it!) |

Any further word on Alex? |

And the Deputy Chief...

You know we are quick to jump on camera manufacturers for one thing or another; perhaps we should be just as direct when we condemn such obvious stupidity of the part of public agencies and people when they manage to do such dumb things as this.
I sent an e-mail as I often do in such cases.
Let them know that their actions are not without attention, from around the world. |

A Lantern photographer who shot photographs of cows that escaped on campus two weeks ago now faces possible charges of criminal trespassing and, despite his requests, will likely not receive legal assistance from Ohio State or The Lantern.

...except Vermont State Troopers do not carry tasers (or they didn't a the time), they carry the Sig Sauer P226 as their side arm.
But anyway, I am glad the charges have been dropped, but either way the paper not backing their photographer is absurd and wrong. What the police did was wrong and they should be dealt with so this does not occur in the future. |

"Sir, you have taken pictures of cows which were intended to be secret... We are now placing you under arrest for the safety of the cows and your self, as photos of cows have often done and will continue to do significant harm to all involved."
I know it's serious, I just can't not laugh every time I think about it! |
