FCC ban of wireless mic kits

->> I did a quick search, and didn't find this topic up. Maybe I've been in a cave, but found out today that most of our wireless kits will be illegal on June 12th, going forward. http://www.professionalwireless.com/
If you've got a wireless kit, check the MHz, anything in this range will be banned: 698 to 806 MHz.
Bummer, big bummer, as the rebate is a pittance. My photo staff has a BUNCH of Sennheiser kits that run between 740-776MHz.
What are others doing? Ignoring it? Ponying up cash for new kits? Using LAV/XLR based mics exclusively? |

->> Known about this one for awhile. In my new day job one of my first big purchases involved moving two studios worth of wireless microphones off of 700Mhz.
Aside from the legalities - which are significant - you really aren't going to want to be on 700MHz after June if you want your audio to be reliable. Public safety will be all over the band. The 5-25 watt mobile units and the several hundred watt repeaters will trash your audio quite effectively. |

| ->> WooHoo! My Sennheiser G2 wireless set-up isn't in that frequency range! |

->> So, are those Sennheiser rebates applied by the kit or the piece?
The wording seems vague and I can't tell if its 80 bucks off a $799 Evolution G3 100 kit or 80 bucks off a $279 SK100 G3 transmitter?
I'm pretty sure it's 80 off 800, but I just want to be Shure. (grin) |

->> You've also got to be be wary of what frequencies are already in use by radio and television stations in your area when purchasing. The Society of Broadcast Engineers has frequency coordinators for all regions of the US, and they should be contacted before buying any wireless audio devices, as they can tell you what frequencies are clear and free of interference.
