->> Has anyone compared the 2 white balance gadgets or does a gray card work just as well (and cheaper)?

->> I have used the Expo disk - which is good when shooting jpeg. I currently use a Whibal gray card and shoot RAW for everything. It does what I need it to do.

->> It depends on where you're shooting. Under artificial lights I use the ExpoDisc; it's much more accurate than a grey card. However, in outdoor light at dusk or shade or cloudy conditions, I use the grey card.

Make no mistake, the $100 you spend for an ExpoDisk is money well spent. It is incredibly accurate in white balancing artificial lights. When shooting in arenas, for instance, sometimes you see a mix of merc vapor and florescent lights and it's maddening trying to balance it. ExpoDisc has always given me perfect balance no matter where I shoot.

->> I agree with Phil. I've used a grey card for years. Late this season someone loaned me an Expodisc. I was amazed. I ordered one the next day. I've used it for every indoor shoot since. Best $100 I've spent all year.

->> One thing to consider is that a grey card doesn't work in all circumstances. If you're shooting basketball and can't put your grey card on the court (or hockey and ice etc), the ExpoDisc will save you lots of post work. So basically, +1 for ExpoDisc. I use it all the time when I shoot .jpeg, but I've been shooting RAW more and more now.

->> A few years ago I went to a Clay Blackmore and Monty Zucker seminar and during the seminar Clay was using this Ed Pierce this Digital Calibrator. I had just brought the expo disc a few days before the seminar, but decided to buy the calibrator out for Penn Camera the next day. I have to say I get the best results from the calibrator although I still carry the expo disc in my bag. The calibrator is GREAT....
