->> I have been contacted to shoot a triathlon of kids ages 7-13. The organizer also wants me to host images online for parents to purchase.
My initial thought was to ask the organizer to put a consent form/ release into the application if it isn't too late.
If that isn't feasible is a password protected folder enough? I tried a search for this but got zero results...Im sure someone will now show me links to ten threads that cover this ad nauseum but any help would be appreciated.

->> A form or clause in the registration form itself works best. If the participants are under 18, you must have the signature of their parent or legal guardian ... not Uncle Bill who happens to be bringing his nephew to the event ....
Many such events I work do the clause on the registration form so they can use my images to promote next year's event ... but they are mostly adult events.
The password protected galleries can help ... but not a perfect means.
In the end, you will only have a problem if someone find they need to complain. Although, since it is an event strictly for youngsters, you may want to protect yourself. |

| ->> You do not need a release to host images on your site to sell prints to the parents. You only need a release for commercial usage of the photos, like Butch has because the organization is using the images in promotions for the next year, but that's a completely different scenario. |

->> The distribution effort for a password is harder than to have stuff at registration. Basically you just get a copy of their registration thing, add your content in, and print it. Even if it requires re-printing, it's still the best way.
Also, there's no way to guarantee that creepers won't be able to get the password too, especially if they show up onsite (which is kind of the nature of creepers anyway...); all they have to do is walk up and ask about photos of their kid (even though they're really talking about someone else's)... It does however make parents feel safer, but it's a false security. |

->> Thanks everyone for the feedback.
I have in my contract:
- Release: Licensor does not warrant that he or she has secured any underlying or third party rights in the image unless Licensor submits a separate release signed by a third party model, property owner, trademark owner or any other owner of any underlying right. If no such release is submitted, no release exists for any underlying rights in any image nor are any such rights secured.
I think that this covers any use the client my attempt for promotion using the images. As for sales on my site, I have had some nice and helpful calls from SS members.
thanks again,
