->> Curious as to how everyone has their cameras set. Especially newspaper shooters in the area of noise reduction and d-lighting.

Thanks

->> Never use High ISO noise reduction. Neat Image (or Noise Ninja or similar programs) does a much better job. Long exposure is different and useful.

I usually use Active D-Lighting in high-contrast situations, although it is not very effective in bright sunlight.

Some Active D-Lighting comparisons:

On the D300s, I really like the "Auto" setting for ADL; on the D300 I generally use Normal.

Also love the Auto ISO feature:

->> In regards to the "ISO Trick", if you update the firmware with firmware from ... maybe mid-July last year?, you get the same shutter speeds available on the D3 (up to 1/4000th?) rather than the default of 1/250.

->> Adrian - True enough, but actually irrelevant for the purposes of the 'trick' since I'm shooting in manual (and yes, I updated my firmware ages ago). But it does free one up to use aperture-priority mode and set a useful 'floor' shutter speed, yes.
