->> Saw this at BestBuy yesterday and found their webpage today.

Anyone played with these? I know I could buy Canon's file transmitter and write a script to upload images, but this just seems cheaper and easier. I'm sure the software is too clunky for efficient pro use, but there has got to be useful to us somehow.
There is even an iphone app that tethers the phone to the card to upload photos. The highest-end card even transmits RAW photos as well as video.
Might have to get one for my wife's point and shoot if nothing else.
Am I way off on this?

| ->> I don't know if they have improved but the Eye-Fi I had wouldn't work for the demands of a professional photographer. |

| ->> Couldn't a manufacturer like Nikon or Canon take this a step further and build WiFi capability right into the camera from the beginning? |

->> Drew, they could but then they couldn't charge you $800 for their wireless system.
Jeff Gritchen at the Long Beach Press-Telegram told me a few months ago how he uses the eye-fi in a CF card adaptor to upload pictures using a MyFi portable hotspot/aircard. |

| ->> I impulse-bought one and tried it out for the very first time at a NCAA Men's Hoops game. Not surprisingly it didn't work. Further troubleshooting at home has also been unsuccessful, so I'm not sure if it's a bum card or user error. Sorta reinforces in my own mind that there's the cheap way to do stuff and then there's the right way. |

->> I've got an Eye-Fi Pro card in my wife's Elph right now and I've also used it in a D90, K-7 and other HDSLRs.
The Pro Card with Xmit video and RAW files, and can be configured to use your in-camera Protect function to key what files to Xmit. Transmit time for an average RAW via my Airport Extreme is about 10s/image.
For what it is and what it does, it does it well. We can shoot some fun photos/videos while out with friends, and the images show up on a folder in my computer while we sit on the couch and review the shots. It can even be configured to bounce images right into a gallery for print fulfillment from, for example, AdoramaPix.
But is it a wire-service-on-deadline-solution-enterprise-level solution? Not really. |

| ->> I bought their 8GB pro version card. Waited about 6 weeks to get it. It sucked!!!! Great idea if it worked. Transfers were slow and that was even at the lowest possible JPEG settings. I sent it back. I wished it worked better....... |

| ->> Hey Guys, i am using the Eye-Fi Pro card and have had good successes. It wasn't easy and the set up was a bit troublesome. I am using it in Adhoc mode with my Powerbook G4. I spent many hours getting it to work only to learn that the supplied instruction do not mention that in order to set up in this mode, you must have your computer hooked up to both wired and wireless network. It is essential that both connections are used in order to set up the card online. Once i made the connection, all work very well. The downloads are a bit slow, but going wireless is handy. I got about 30 feet between walls and the connection is constant but keep in mind -Do Not let your computer go to sleep. I have spoken to a rep from Eye-Fi at Macworld this year and they agree that there is a problem with their setup instructions. They told me that the new 8gb pro card might have better performance. For now i am happy with what i have invested in. |

->> Works fine for me with Verizon MiFi and I occasionally use at events when I need near real-time updates to the Web and don't want the hassle of lugging around a laptop and doing the ingest, edit, caption, FTP process. Biggest problem has been at venues where cell service is congested and Internet uploads time out.
I'll use it at the Masters because my client wants a near real-time image of Tiger while on the course. |

| ->> Be warned. This might be the kind of wireless thing the NCAA has banned at the basketball tourney. Specifically says cameras, wireless systems, routers and any 802.11 device. |

| ->> Been using the original 2 gig for 2 years in the studio. Easy setup and functionality. Use it with the auto import option in Lightroom. My setup has the images being transferred to a sub-folder in the Eye-Fi folder that is based on the date. As the images load into the folder, Lightroom looks into that folder and displays the mages full screen on a secondary monitor. From the time I hit the shutter to the time of image display is approximately 30 seconds. |
