| ->> I've been hearing all day that Verizon is getting the Iphone by mid-summer. Is there any truth to that rumor? |

->> Yes it's true ... there are rumors aplenty that Apple is planning this ...
According to one report, Apple stock went up 1.5% yesterday based on the rumor ... so far I have not seen any official announcement by or on behalf of Apple that this is indeed true .... |

| ->> I'll believe it when I see it, but would be very happy to see it as I'm a Verizon customer. My blackberry is set to be upgradeable in December so I'm hoping a Verizon iPhone comes out this summer. Would be perfect timing for me...enough time to get the stock back in after an early slam and perhaps work out a few bugs. My only major attraction to the iPhone is the web browser. The BB just doesn't cut it. I can't even get my Smugmug account to load right. It works great on my iTouch using WiFi. |

| ->> This rumor has been around for months. Each time it crops up...a new date is rumored. Cross your fingers if you want it to be true. |

| ->> I won't buy an iPhone until I can get it from Verizon. AT&T sucks for a vareity of reasons, and no other providers offer decent coverage. |

| ->> Keep the iPhone away from Verizon...I'm very happy with my Verizon Droid and don't want the iPhone on "my" network. |

->> I doubt Verizon will have the network issues AT&T had. It's actually a win-win situation for every wireless customer. The only people that really lose out might be AT&T shareholders.
Think about it, Iphones account for a vast majority of AT&T's data. When the Verizon Iphone comes out, presumably a bunch of people will move back to Verizon and the AT&T network will no longer be super-congested. Everyone is happy! |

| ->> I think it will boil down to the point if the iPhone will function as it currently does on the AT&T network ... the ability to surf the net and speak on the phone simultaneously ... if not ... that could inhibit sales somewhat ... |

->> i wouldn't get too fired up about this. obviously verizon being a gsm-based network is less than ideal for the iphone. the cdma network moves data somewhere in the area of 5x faster. while i get that at&t sucks monkey balls, i don't really see how this deal is going to be good for verizon and the millions who will be expecting the cdma speeds that at&t can only deliver at 4am. unless or until that gsm network gets a super-charger bolted on, what's the point? a slow at&t and a fast verizon are probably pretty similar in speed.
then again, i could be totally jacked in my research.
more answers are needed here. verizon has not been the obvious choice for this deal. t-mobile was the obvious choice as far as industry experts are concerned. |

->> I actually was in a verizon store tonight with a friend who was looking at the droid eris.....the guy, who actually seemed to be a pretty heads up salesperson (as compared to the other employees who had no idea how any of the phones worked) said that was a rumor and was not going to happen anytime soon. this follows the rumor late last year that the new ipod touch would have a camera in it. the reasoning behind that was that apple had apparently bought a huge amount of the camera components...so these rumor mills started saying the new touch would have a camera....not so.
wouldn't put much stock on this rumor either. |

->> Happy to have the iPhone on Verizon. That means more people would move from AT&T clearing up more network space for me.
It's a win-win. |

->> I wouldn't touch an iPhone on Verizon... They have a huge tendency to disable all sorts of features on their phones, and for some reason I've never had a verizon phone that doesn't have a huge delay in between pressing something and the phone responding...
Who knows why, but I just switched to the iPhone and couldn't be happier :)
(oh, and my plan is significantly cheaper for way more data/minutes/texts too!) |

->> I don't know about Monty's issues...but I can honestly say the coverage in the Scottsdale area by AT&T for the iPhone has improved a great deal over the past year.
So much so, that I can now take phone calls in the bottom floor of my house, which I was NEVER able to do before. I had to either go up to my bedroom or outside to successfully use it. And, the dead spots around the neighborhood are mostly gone.
Verizon coverage might be better, but AT&T is improving. THe one thing I would be worried about with Verizon though is the upload speeds of their data. From my simple understanding (based on an Electrical Engineering degree that I haven't really used in 15 years and conversations with an AT&T Account Manager), is that the burst transmission they use to upload data isn't quite as fast as AT&Ts. And, they haven't had as many users saturate their towers as AT&T has. Yes, AT&T was awful in the beginning but they are getting better. I'd expect the same sorts of issues if and when Verizon gets the iPhone. Do I think Verizon will eventually catch up and surpass AT&T...most likely. But, will they be able to do it quickly enough and with a plan that doesn't cost more?
We'll just have to see. |
