->> I've been using one on a 400/2.8 since last September, and was sufficiently pleased with it that I also purchased one for a 600/4.
I've only encountered two drawbacks so far, one of which is more significant than the other. The first relates to the use of the hood with rain gear like Think Tank's hydrophobia. Unfortunately, the hydrophobia seems to work best when firmly mounted to a rigid hood; when mounted on the soft hood, the hydrophobia has a tendency to shift and even slide off if you are not careful when deploying it. The other drawback I've found is that the hood is a tad too long to fit into Think Tank's Airport Security bag flat; instead, I've traveled with the hood wrapped around the body of the lens (and it seems to provide a little bit more padding that way, too).
On the other hand, the soft hood is considerably lighter than the standard hoods, and easier to pack for travel. |

->> Samuel- I also have the Think Tank hydrophobia and it's good to know how it works with the soft hood. I'm surprised that Think Tank hasn't released a soft hood themselves.
Do you know any place that has any good deals on the soft hoods? |

| ->> I purchased them at Roberts. They may still have a better price than B&H. |

->> I have been using them since Dec. on my 400 and 300. I like them, as they provide extra padding when packing, and are very light.
I first got them cause my 400 hood broke, and the replacement (if I could of found it) would of been over US$ 500.
Just don't stand the lens on the hood, as it will tip over easily. |
