UK nationalises orphans, bans non-consensual public photos

I'm curious to see how our UK members feel about this recent development. I'm sure we all know the ramifications of such an action and I don't need to explain the effects this could have.

->> Well pretty much how you'd feel if it was happening in the US I'd say Doug :) The fight is being fought in all the right places and I doubt any legislation will be anywhere near as severe as described in the article you list. However, whether it does or not it all just contributes to the general devaluing of photography and photographers rights in the public consciousness. It's already hard enough to take photographs in public places, particularly in London, so the issues around consensual photography worry me more than the orphan works element. As we've seen with anti-terrorism legislation, it doesn't actually seem to matter a great deal what the letter of the law says - it will be misinterpreted by authority figures and public in a way that makes our job harder.
