->> how different are these 2 cards? one is 80 mb/s, the other 90. Other than that-is there such a big difference?

data from Rob Galbraith.

->> Deb, the Sandisk is 90MB per second, the Lexar is 80x, where x is a speed of 150KB. That's a huge difference.

I looked up the cards in the Rob Galbraith database, but they don't have info for the D3s yet, nor do they have your exact cards tested, but I looked at the D3X (newest camera listed for Nikon), and the same type of cards or close to it, and heres what I found

Sandisk 45MB 16gb writes 27MB a second or so in Jpeg and RAW, while the fastest Lexar 80X wrote 10MB in Jpeg and RAW

But to be honest, unless you hammer down and shoot tons of photos in a burst, that speed won't mean but one or two more shots in a series.

Where the cards DO matter is in download speed from card to computer via a card reader...

The Sandisk averaged high 30s and low 40s with the right card reader, while the Lexar barely averaged in the low 10s.

With the right card reader (probably a very new pricey one), you should be able to get amazing speeds, which could speed up your transmit time.

->> I just purchased a couple of the Transcend 16gb 600x CF cards and have been very happy with them. My older Sandisk Extreme III's and IV's work great but I definitely noticed a difference in speed in the reader with the newer cards.

->> I had to get larger CF cards for my 1D4 and so far the
Sandisk Extreme 16GB 60mb/s have worked out really well.
I also got the Sandisk firewire reader and it is 3-3.5x
faster then my old USB reader.

->> SanDisk's Extreme 60gb/sec cards are night and day depending on which camera you have. They performed like dogs in my D300/D300s. Galbraith had similar results; yet Galbraith found they performed well in the 5D Mk II.

Deb, don't you dare put that "80x" in your Nikon! There are reasonable alternatives - the Transcends are probably the best deal, and the 300x, 400x, and 600x all perform well in D3xx Nikons.

->> I was a diehard Lexar fan - but not because I thought there was really any difference between the major brands - I just liked their name the best :-) But when I bought my D3s - my dealer didn't have the 600x Lexar cards in stock - so I got the SanDisk 16 GB 90mb/sec cf cards which work great in the D3s - and download like butter with a Lexar pro fw800 card reader.
