What equipment should you carry into assignment first?

->> I can tell you this, it shouldn't be a lightstand bag...for a bank corporate shoot!
I had to shoot some portraits this morning for a bank and came in dressed in my suit carrying a backdrop and black bag of stands first. Bad choice. One of the tellers immediately went rigid. She thought I had a bag of rifles! Luckily, I introduced myself and I was there to photograph such and such, thank God I didn't say I was there to "shoot" people!
The tellers all said they had their hands on the panic buttons!
So, when you show up for an assignment, think twice what equipment you have first when you walk in! |

->> Good thing you weren't suffering from laryngitis and decided to hand the teller a note asking for your "victims" to report.

->> Years ago I did a lot of work for a local hospital and used a hard-sided golf club case for tripod and stands and had two aluminum cases of strobes. As I wheeled that gear thru the hospital on a hand cart, I'm sure visitors and patients wondered if they were full of bodies or body parts.

->> Frankly if I have more than just a shoulder bag to bring in I walk in just to see how far I need to drag my gear. I will meet with my contact, give them a biz card and walk around to the locale for the shoot. Then I can either wheel the gear in or drive the car to the entrance that is closer to where the shoot is going to take place.

->> I agree with you Jonathan and I quickly learned not to drag all my equipment in the offices only to find out we would be at the back of the building or at another site.
