->> Hey guys,
We recently had an old Sony HVR-A1U/A1N video camera go down and are looking to replace it. Looking for one that we can use with a wireless mic. So what do you think would be best for $1500 or less...and why? Much appreciated...Dan. |

->> HMC40 from Panasonic. It is close to that and you can add the XLR package for about $200. Or if the wireless mic has a mini plug than you don't even need to add that.
Check out dvinfo.net for a lot of good info about the HMC40 and other video cameras. |

->> I have seen a few barely used XH-A1's on eBay recently that have been going for about that price. I have one and really like it. Dual XLR inputs, lots of setting options. Works very well if DV tapes and a used item does not bother you.
The theme I noticed was well off consumers buy them thinking they are just fancier versions of a consumer camera and quickly find out they have more camera than they expected and end up trying to move them. |

You might want to give people more than 7-and-a-bit hours to respond before lambasting everyone. |

->> Hi Dan!
You're a Canon shooter right? My recommend: A Canon 5d Mk II
If you have to have video only, The XH-A1 that Kevin recommends is a rockin' camera. |

| ->> If you want something that has quite a bit of power for its size and price, look into the Sony XR500V. It is what I would classify as a high end consumer level camcorder. |

| ->> How about the Canon HV20,30,40? A great DV cam that has a cult following that shoots DV tapes and you can add a Beachtek audio adapter for great sound, all for less than $1000. You still have money left over for stuff like a shotgun microphone and a wide-angle lens adapter. |

| ->> I’m no video expert, but have been talking to one who is and who has a wealth of experience shooting news and features and he also recommends the HV30/40. Small, lightweight, easy to use, inexpensive and tape based for archiving. You could also look at the Canon HFD200 (I think that’s the model) which records to SD cards . . . just make sure you have the computer power to handle the files and to archive the footage. |
