->> Hey Rogerio,
Thats a pretty nice piece. Good mix of photos and video. It gives a pretty good feeling of what it was like to be in the mix of that. Ive been in a few protests like that and know how crazy they can get.
I think the piece could stand to go one of two directions.
1. Informational. If you want it to be informational like a news/documentary story, I think it needs a little bit more info about why these protests were happening. Definitely not the cliche, "My name is xxx, Im the xxx, and today we are xxx." but some audio of someone taking about why they are there, what they are doing, and you know, if they think the protests are working, how they feel about the police brutality, etc. , and integrated into the rest of the ambience that you were able to get.
2. More of an artistic piece not intended for news outlets. Like something where you just basically used the protests as a setting for making something really creative, beautiful, or ugly. Maybe where things are less literal and more interpretive.
Of course, you can totally rock both of these directions at the same time, but in my opinion, from where you are at this point with it, I feel like it would benefit you to pick one direction and go for it and see what happens. It seems like its kind of in limbo right now.
Also, I would probably edit down to 2 minutes or so, unless there is a real reason to have it be longer.
Anyway, just my two cents. Nice work on putting the whole thing together. I know just editing and compiling everything is a task in its self.
Keep it up.

->> Rogerio,
Like Josh, I also believe that you could stand to edit it a lot tighter. You've got some nice images in there but they kind of get lost among the "filler" images. Edit tight with both still and video and it'll have more impact. Also, your stronger images are toward the end of the piece (once things turned a bit more chaotic) which, I understand if you're going chronologically, but your readers may not invest enough time to get there if they're not "wowed" in the first 20 seconds. Also, if you edit tighter you'll be able to spend more time toning the few(er) images that you include, because most of the images looked like they could stand to be toned a lot better, as they all looked a bit washed out.
I also tend to agree with Josh that more information is needed to give the reader some background as to why/what these people are protesting, what impact, if any, it had on the community, how many arrests were made, people (police or protesters) injured, cost to the city, etc... Why does your reader care, and why are they watching this?
Just a few text slides could do the trick.
Good job overall though. |
