Arena Strobes
Les Schofer, Assistant

->> I am researching strobes for use primarily in our University's Ice hockey arena and swimming pool. I have used White Lightning 800's several times and the older 1200 Ultras several years ago on a regular basis. The 800's are not powerful enough for the Ice Hockey.

I am seriously considering the Elinchrom RX 600. I have heard great and not so great things about them. Any member input from experience would be appreciated. Cost is not an issue.

The white Lightning Einsteins interest me, but I am wondering if due to their output curve, they will be usable with Pocket Wizard TT5 hypersync.

->> The Eli 600RX's are nice, but if you're just using them as arena lights, you don't really need the digital circuitry. Why not find some 600S units? They are pretty much identical to the 600RX, but are considerably cheaper. I have two of each and use them interchangeably.

->> Remember the Walkman? It was followed by the disc-man, then the iPod, then iTouch, then iPhone and now iPad. Each of these changes gave users a better product.

I believe the same is true with the lights. Take a look at the new Einstein
http://www.paulcbuff.com/pcb2009/einstein.html or the Zeus if you want a quad head. http://www.alienbees.com/zeus.html

My point is archives are just that archives. Things have evolved and with ISOs much higher as well and less noise you may not need the power we had to use years ago with shooting chrome.

By the way I am in no way endorsed by or getting support from Paul Bluff. It is just when you cut out the middle man and make a great unit you can blow away the competition.
