->> This is a do not miss opportunity to take a stand for your intellectual property rights.
"The Obama Administration is asking to hear from YOU, the creative backbone of our country, about how intellectual property infringement affects YOUR livelihood. The Administration is also seeking advice on what the government could be doing to better protect the rights of artists and creators in our country. HERE'S A CHANCE FOR YOU TO BE HEARD!"

->> No, they aren't Yamil... Congress is not the same as the white house.

These things are not set in stone; and there are people who are now being put in place to help shape legislature who are asking for our input. Also remember that complaining on forums doesn't help - congressmen and congresswomen don't generally follow SS.com. The constructive way to go about things is to write your state and national representatives to let them know what their consistuents want and need; that's the best way for them to get informed. |

Yes I learned that in 8th Grade!!
But it's still Government!! No matter which branch!!
Asking for help after they boned us?? Gee, that's grand!! Why didn't they ask us when they were drafting the Orphan Works Bill??
And yes, I do contact my Senators and Congress people frequently, but most of the time, they don't give a damn what we think and they vote with Party Lines and not for the folks that elected them!! That is a sad thing!!! |

->> Not Congress, it's the White House...
I think that's What Yamil and I are saying. If O voted to pass it in when he was in the Senate, why do we think he will change his mind as Pres?
I can't find it, but I think I even got a reply from him (well, his office intern I'm sure) telling me why he was supporting it. It could have been one of the other elected representatives, but at least I think it was O. |

->> Someone is asking for input. Quit whining and give it!
Geez, it's not that complicated. They're humans, not machines, and lobbying is only powerful because all the small voices tend to never speak up! :) |

->> The point is they ARE asking for input. You can sit back and say, "Why should they care now or why should I bother to give them my thoughts when they didn't want them before?"
OR
you can say, "This is great, They want to know what I think. I'm going to be part of the team that tries to clean up this train wreck."
You decide. Be part of a potential resolution or chose not to be. |

->> Oh, you bet I will speak up!!
Like I spoke up when the Orphan Works Bill came up.
I'm just extremely skeptical about the whole thing!!
Why now?? |

->> This is important. The request is from the newly appointed (and created) Intellectual Property Czar - Victoria A. Espinel. This is a new position created during the Bush Administration and it has been filled for the first time under the Obama administration. This request for input is mandated by the Intellectual Property Act of 2008.
Yamil - The Czar is a new position, that is why they are asking for input now. There has never been an Intellectual Property Czar before.
Alan - It passed the House and Senate in two very different forms and was not enacted. The new Czar has power that was never in place before. We need to impact the Czar with our concerns.
The Orphan Works legislation was not enacted, and this is one way to let the Administration know how copyright affects you as a small business owner. That concept is important - small business is a key term to use. They are interested in how infringement affects business.
The NPPA Advocacy Committee has been working for over a month formulating a position piece on this for the Czar. Along with other groups, we are trying to make an impact and protect photographer's rights. This is a good starting point. You can see more about this at http://nppa.org/news_and_events/news/2010/02/copyright.html

There has never been that many Czars before, not even in Russia!!
It comes down to Dollars and cents my friends!!
The Orphan Works Bill affects other powerful and Influential people, other than Photographers and Artists!!
It affects Powerful Folks in the Music and Film industry too!! And they have money to spend on Political campaigns!! And they have vastly more influence to Career Politicians than all of us put together!!
Again, I will vice my opinion, like I did before, but again, I don't trust Politicians and Politically Appointed people.

->> If someone comes to you asking for your opinion and your help isn't it important to try to help. If the help you give and the opinions you offer could make a difference in your future, why would anyone want to complain about being asked to comment.
Photographers are some of the strangest people I know. Is it appropriate to complain about being asked to help shape our own future. Sometimes it would be nice to complain less and be more proactive about bettering the industry.
For once, help yourselves out and go to these sites and be informed. Take action and do something positive for your industry and your future.
