D3s video issues
Ron Erdrich, Photographer

->> A coworker has gotten a D3s and we've been trying to figure out why Final Cut and Premiere don't always recognize the AVI files. Final Cut will sometimes say the file is damaged or incomplete when it isn't and plays fine in the camera. Anybody else having any problems like this? We're using brand-new Lexar cards and readers.

->> What version of Final Cut are you running?

Try running the avi files through MPEG Streamclip

http://www.squared5.com/svideo/mpeg-streamclip-mac.html

Convert them to the apple intermediate codec and then import those files into Final Cut.

I don't have any experience with the Nikon side of video, but I know with the video that comes out of a Canon you have to convert it to a codec that is recognized by Final Cut.

->> i've found that it helps if you copy the files to a folder on your desktop or somewhere on your main drive and then import the folder. btw, we shoot vid for broadcast, ie 1080p on plasma in the living room, and the D3 files are just amazing. This is the most amazing camera ever., still or video, IMHO.
