->> It doesn't seem like you can adjust your audio levels or even monitor them while recording. That seems like a major issue to me (what exactly is the point of manual audio controls if you can't see or hear - without S-Video to mini converters, etc. - your audio? Canon is seriously missing out here).
Also, if you're a Magic Lantern user, know that you won't be able to use Magic Lantern with this firmware until they update ML (http://bit.ly/bmXErr). Considering that Magic Lantern still has functionality that Canon isn't offering, ML users might want to consider holding off on the firmware update. |

->> Danny, I think it really depends on what is most critical to you. For me, the 24P is what is important from this upgrade and really don't rely on the audio in camera anyway other than as a reference for syncing in a better quality recording.
From what I have read, the ML guys are already hacking away at the latest version so it will not be long before a new version of ML is available.
Instead of taking a jab, I am giving a huge Thank You to Canon for getting this done. Fixing 30P so it conforms to the 29.97 standard and adding standard complaint 24P capability for free to an 18+ month old product I think is pretty alright.
Personally, I want my camera to be a camera and my audio recorder to be an audio recorder so could care less they didn't delay this any longer to pretty up the audio options. Why would they when they know the ML guys will do it for them? |

->> Taking a jab? Please.
Great video is defined by great audio. I was incredibly excited to hear about manual audio controls, but disappointed to find that those controls are inaccessible while shooting. It feels a bit like a sprinter stumbling just before the finish line. Yes, it's a great step forward because JuicedLink users no longer have to destroy some audio in order to get the audio recorder to work well. But it is a bummer to be so close to the out-of-the-box audio controls of an actual video camera, yet still so far away. I'm not aimlessly complaining, but trying to inform those who have a shoot tomorrow (such as myself and the staffers I work with) of the limitations of this update.
Personally, I did install the new firmware. I think it's a nice step in the right direction. But, if you make a living shooting video and like using Magic Lantern, you should be aware that this update does not replace all of ML's features and renders the current version inoperable. That said, the ML designers say a new version is right around the corner.
Thanks to everyone for sharing the information. |

| ->> "Great video is defined by great audio." - couldn't have said it better myself Danny. Audio is the driver for my edit points and often the driver of the pacing of my entire package story. Therefore VU meters are next on the Canon--I hope. My workaround is using an external device like a beachtech which has meters + dual mono XLR inputs + headphone jack. |

I agree that built-in VU meters are right around the corner. In the meantime, it is pretty cool to be right on the edge of this continuing evolution. |

I only found the old version 1.1.0
Thanks and have fun! |

->> "Canon detects problem with 5D Mark II firmware
Recently we have discovered a malfunction that occurs with Firmware Version 2.0.3, in which the manual recording levels for C1/C2/C3 are changed and the camera becomes unable to record audio if the power is turned off (or if Auto power off takes effect) after registering "Sound Recording: Manual" in the camera user settings."
