600mm f4 w/ Canon MkIII at night?

->> Any of you ever shoot with a Mark III and 600mm f4 at night? In particular Bank of America Stadium. I've been asked to shoot the soccer match there on the 24th, but I've sold my 300 2.8 and 70-200 2.8 so I may upgrade equipment by the football season. I have a buddy that I can use his lens, but I don't want to commit unless this combination works.

Thanks.

->> Ron Scheffler says in The Guide: "Night game light levels are in the range of 1/800 sec. @ f/2.8 @ ISO 1000 on the Canon 1DII. As you'd expect, endzones are slightly darker. The field runs kind of east/west and the visiting team is on the north side, the backlit side."

I would assume for soccer they will use the whole pitch - including the end-zones. So expect the goalmouths to be slightly darker than the rest of the pitch.

->> I will be there as well, planning on using a Mark IV with a 400 mm f2.8, assuming a minimum ISO of 1600 to get 1/1000 or 1/1250. 1/800 just doesn't stop the ball. I would prefer 1/1600-1/2000, but not worth the ISO.

Have you received any f/u about photographer locations? I haven't received anything since notification of credential one week ago.

->> That's too bad. I don't know how big the crowds were on the first two stops for the Mexican National Team, but the latest numbers are that they have sold over 55,000 tickets for this match. Pretty remarkable for football (soccer) in this country!
