CF card won't read

->> A little panicked right now. I'm editing an assignment and have just found one of the 2 cards it was shot on is seemingly DOA.
Here is a summary:
2. Card shot fine, and previewed on the screen without issue.
2. Put card in camera reader, did not appear on computer.
3. Tried second card reader, error message appears "Card can not be read on this computer."
4. Put it back in the camera, says "card not formatted." However the camera is now unable to format the card.
Luckily 3/4 of the shoot was on the card that did work, but I'd still like to get this section of the shoot too.
Any idea on what I can do? I don't see signs of physical damage to the card. Recovery software has had nothing but read errors and deadline is approaching.
Card is a 2GB Sandisk Extreme IV
Camera is a 1D Mark 3
Computer is a Macbook Pro with 10.6.2
Thanks! |

| ->> If you haven't already I'd give SanDisk a call, they have a dedicated support number for the Extreme cards: 1-866-270-5532 |

| ->> Their solution is to have it replaced under warranty, which I will do. Sadly, that doesn't give much hope for the photos. |

->> Andrew I had a similar issue a while back. Turned out that my express card had a dent in it and said dent shorted the reader and card. I not only fried my card but the card of a fellow SS member....
In my case the card was recoverable by putting it in a different reader and running recovery software. You may want to check your reader or hold it suspect until you are sure that it wasn't the culprit.
Lets see if the afflicted member remembers and chimes in. |

| ->> Another culprit, could be that card's file system has been corrupted. The images may still be recoverable. You might also try finding a PC user, use file recovery software and see if your file can't be recovered. |

| ->> If you can view the images on the camera, but the reader is not seeing the images, try downloading the images straight from the camera, using the usb cable for the camera, you likely will be able to recover the images. I had a fellow photographer use this method when the camera would read the images but a card reader would not. good luck. |

->> I should clarify, the images do not show up on the camera. Upon inserting the card, a "card not formatted" error appears, when a format is attempted, it prompts saying it is unable to.
After trying several options Sandisk support told me it's a lost cause. |

| ->> Did you run any kind of image recovery software? Like Imagerescue, etc? Those are really your only hope, and formatted or not, they can recover data if there's anything left of the card's internals. |

| ->> Sandisk's RescuePRO had read errors across all sectors on the card. No data recovered. |
