"How to hire a photographer.
If you want quality always hire a professional, not a guy with a camera or a mom just starting out.
Look for key words in the ad for clues to the clueless
I am available weekends - means I have another job but have gotten lucky a few times and got some nice shots of my family and friends. I might get some when you hire me but might not.
Here is a link to my Flickr, Sugmug or some other site for amateurs - I am not a pro and don't have a real website but you can trust I'll get the shots.
I shoot everything natural light - I don't have a studio or anything other than an on camera flash, never really learned to master light or how to use a flash, hey let's take the photo in the shade as the sun is not my friend.
If they offer it cheap or free to work on their portfolio run as fast as you can because in all likely hood you will have to have someone else do it over latter.
Always look for a photographer who has his own website with samples of photos from more than one sitting or wedding, a minimum of 10 photos of different people and places with a mix of studio and location work. It should show that they understand light and the photos don't look like snap shots."
