| ->> How do you check how many frames your camera has fired in a lifetime through photomechanic? I have been told it can be done. |

->> Open the IPTC Stationary Pad.
At the bottom of the field click on variables.
A sub-field will open on the left or right of the main field.
At the top, within camera, is actuations (act).
Highlight that and you will see it appear in the caption field inside brackets { }.
Close the variables and you should be good to go.
The actuations from my Nikons, D3 & D700, show after ingestion. They don't when I ingest from my Leica M8.2. This also only works for JPG's, I don't think it does for NEF (RAW) files. |

| ->> I just checked a folder, actually the actuations for NEF files show as well in the caption field. |

->> An easier way to see it beside every photo in the preview window is to go to the Edit menu, Settings, Set Info Text. Then add this into the list where ever you want it.
Actuations: {actuations}
or
Shutter count: {actuations}
etc. |

| ->> OK, I give up. I understand how to get the word captions in parentheses under captions. But how do you get an actual number? |

| ->> After going to the camera bits forum, it seems to me that this is a canon issue. The Mark IV and 7D do not display any numbers and the Mark III displays a number that reflects the frame number which resets at 10,000. I have been led to believe that the only way to get actuation for these cameras is to send them to canon. |

->> Kevin,
Thanks! That's really helpful (and scary too, as one of my shutters is approaching the end of its official duty cycle!)
Yikes! |

| ->> Why would Canon, or anyone for that matter make a professional body that does not allow the user to check actuations? |
