The convention will also feature workshops on topics such as editing, multimedia and lighting.

WNPA prides itself on consistently being one of the best and most affordable photojournalism conventions in the Midwest.

WHAT: WNPA 2010 Convention
WHEN: Saturday, March 13, 2010, programs begin at 9:00 a.m., breakfast at 8:00 a.m.
WHERE: Hotel Metro, 411 East Mason Street, Milwaukee, WI 53202 (special room rate of $149 expires March 8)
REGISTRATION COST (at the door): Professionals $40 ($60 non-members), Students $10 ($15 non-members)

About the speakers:

Heinz Kluetmeier
Born in Germany and raised in Milwaukee, Kluetmeier started his career at the age of 15 with the Associated Press. While attending Dartmouth College, he spent his summers working for the AP, the Milwaukee Journal, and Life. He joined Time, Inc., full time in 1969, shooting for Time, Life and Sports Illustrated magazines. During his time at Sports Illustrated, Kluetmeier has shot more than 100 covers and has served as the magazine's Director of Photography.

Kevin Miyazaki
An editorial and fine art photographer based in Milwaukee represented by Redux, Miyazaki's newspaper career included internships at USA Today, The Kansas City Star, and the Star Tribune in Minneapolis. He spent 8 years on the staff of the Cincinnati Enquirer, before leaving to become photography director at Cincinnati Magazine. In 2000, he returned to his hometown of Milwaukee to work as the photographer at Milwaukee Magazine. For the past 5 years, he has been doing freelance editorial work, focusing on portrait and travel assignments. His personal fine art work deals with issues of family history, memory and public/private space. Miyazaki will present his work and address the topics of business practices and transitioning from newspapers to independent work. He will also serve as one of three judges of WNPA's Pictures of the Year contest.

Aaron Johnson
Johnson is the creator of "What the Duck," a popular comic strip that tells the tales of a camera-toting, Photoshop-using duck. Originally meant to be a lark, Johnson started the feature in July 2006 on his band's Web site. The strips took on a life of their own and quickly exploded in popularity with comics fans and camera aficionados, taking Johnson's unruffled duck on a journey that's landed him in daily syndication. He keeps his fans engaged on his Web site by allowing them to help name his new, untitled strips. Raised near Green Bay, Wis., Johnson is a graduate of Columbia College Chicago in animation. He lives in Oak Creek, Wis., with his wife, Patty, and two young children, Jonas and Clare.

->> Hey guys,
I don't have to tell you how exciting it is to have Heinz as our featured speaker...that's a given. But what I can tell you is that our convention is always entertaining and a great learning experience. It has a very laid back vibe which lends itself to great conversations with fun folks. The Hotel Metro is awesome and we always have fun catching up with old friends and meeting new friends in the funky lobby cocktail lounge. Great restaurants within walking distance too! If you happen to be in the area or have the day free you will not regret hanging out with us. I know you'll have a lot of fun. Hope to see you...Dan.
