->> I am doing an essay on how technology has changed the way that photojournalists do their job. Be it the change from film to digital and how that affected the industry to how sites such as twitter can have a story tweeted around the world twice before the event is even over.
What I am looking for is sources to back up my points - This is such a shot in the dark but I am having trouble finding any relevant sources that arent from '99
If anyone has any books or interesting articles that they remember reading - i would appreciate the help
Thanks Guys--

->> I'm sorry I can't help with the articles, but why not interview some of the people that have been through the changing process? I'm sure there are plenty here on SS.
I've been in newspapers for over 20 years. I started out with black and white film, then went to color slides, then color neg and finally digital.
We went from rushing black & white negs to the newspaper photo lab, printing black and white photos for deadline, to processing color in the photo lab and processing in occasional hotel bathrooms to E-6 processors in the newspaper photo lab. With digital, I remember lots of stages, but in a nutshell we went from bringing our digital images back to the photo lab to now being able to transmit from the site of the photo shoot, whether it be spot news or other.
As an example, I can shoot the first 2-3 songs of a concert, transmit the 2-3 images and have them up on our website before the concert is over. The reporter is tweeting from his/her iPhone or laptop while the concert is going on. I will have a photo gallery up on the website a few hours after the concert is over. |

->> Dann,
Hey shoot me an email and I will send you a paper that I wrote last semester that might help you some. I wrote it on how the transition of film to digital has changed the photo industry.
my email is on my sportsshooter page.
Plus, Id like to help out a fellow MO student. |

->> A couple of sources that might help. First G. Newman Lowrance's book Digital Sports Photography. Chapter two is about the transition from film to digital. Second, a book by David duChemin called Visionmongers which came out just last year. It is more of a "how to run your business" type of book, but it has a section on web 2.0 which might be helpful and also stories of several successful photographers which might have useful information.
I'll also second Rodrigo's point that interviews with members here would be a great source for you.
Hope this helps. |
