End Zone camera (pole/support) options or recommendations
Steve Violette, Photographer

->> Working with the local football team to install an end zone camera to video night football games (high school). The County is restricting the building of towers, so we are looking into the 30 foot extended poles that are supported by a quardapod.

Quick searched turn up Hi-pod X4, and EVS Winch Telescope and a 22 foot Stow -n-go all priced close to the same for similar features.

Does anybody have recent experience setting up or purchasing one of these units

also - Each system seems to give a small sony mimi-DV camera with the purchase - is this a decent option or should we be looking at a better camera. The use will be for video of games and practices

any help is appreciated

Thanks

Steve

->> Steve two of the schools that I shoot at just lease a scissor lift for the season and park it in the endzone. It's there all season and can also be used by the grounds staff to make repairs to things like the endzone netting etc.

This was also the case with COX cable when I was shooting in RI for championships. They would bring out a scissor lift for lacrosse and field hockey and if I remember correctly the soccer final too.

->> I'm guessing they all use Sony camcorders because Sony uses their own proprietary LANC wired remotes:

which let you remotely power the camera on/off, start/stop recording, and zoom in/out.

->> Marvin - Thanks - I'll look them up

Currently the county is frowning on using the scissor lift idea. There are a couple of schools in the neighboring county that successfully do this, but the county administrators are citing safety concerns.

We would also like to use this for practice as well

curtis - thanks - was not aware of this

Steve
