->> Thought everyone might be interested in seeing this. It's a digital photo frame that I've been following the progress on for a couple months.

The interesting part is that the frame accepts pictures sent to it over a wireless network and enables interactivity with the pictures as well.
I think they still have some work to do on the business model but if these types of frames take off, could be a great targeted content distribution opportunity here for agencies, individual photographers, etc., based on the users interests and preferences. For example, I'll pay $.99/month (or something like that) to get pictures from the latest Eagles NFL game on my frame when I get to the office on Monday morning.
Anyone else think something like this could take off? |

| ->> I would much prefer one that was WiFi but pulled images off on RSS feed. There used to be one that did that and supposedly worked with SmugMug but it was 50/50 based off your router specs if it would actually work. |

->> Considering the difficulty in big media getting anyone at all to pay for its content online, I don't see much hope in something like this getting off the ground. Take your Eagles example. How many fans care that much? In this day of hi def video, sportcenter, etc., how many would really pay anything at all for pictures? In fact, how many would even opt in for free pictures to their frame? I would say very few would pay anything to see those pictures, even just 25 cents a game. Of course out of that 25 cents the nfl is going to take half or more so you really need some subscribers to make a go of it. Or I guess your photo frame might show 4 eagles photos, then an advertisement for Geno's or Pat's, or NFL merchandise, etc.
Maybe down the line something like this could get going, but you will need an effective micropayment system, and then it will probably be on your tv, or IPAD like device, where you get pushed the content you want and whatever time you want. For photoframes, well maybe if OLED ever lives up to the hype, and face it, it's been promised for a long time. Anyway, if we every have OLED viewing walls, then people might want to fill it with a wide range of high megapixel photos, that Getty will provide them for a 1/10 of a cent or something crazy. Even then there are people out there shooting 4k stock video footage on RED cameras so we can all have a lovely mountain view, beach, or flowing stream on our viewing wall. The kids will think photos are what their grandparents used to look at in something called a magazine. |
