Scanning old slides
Jim Owens, Photographer

->> Recently, my family came across some old boxes of 35mm slides that have been stored in a dry basement for over 40 years, There are images in this collection of some family members that have been long deceased and have not been seen for those 40+ years. Unfortunately, I do not have the time or expertise to clean up and scan these images onto a DVD for preservation purposes. Does anyone have any recommendations for a company that can do this ?

->> Scancafe.com is endorsed by former White House photographer David Hume Kennerly.

An alternative would be to buy a system such as this...

->> To add to what Jesse has posted, out here in California, Costco charges .29 cents per slide. I have taken as many as 100 in at a time, and the turnaround is 24 hours or less. Their software also cleaned up any that had small "chips" in the emulsion, Also, some had mold growing on them, that did not show up on the digital file. I was happy with their service.
I think I will send a few I had done at Costo to some of the businesses other members have suggested on this post, for a comparison, but like I said, very happy with Costco!
