For those of you shooting video with a HDSLR, what's your set up like?
What Mics are you using?
What tripods?
Lights? |

->> A few years back American Idol came to our University to highlight one of the opera students that made the show. They pulled out these 4 x4 lite panels to light the subject. I was like I want one of those. It was quick and bright. At the time it was like $10,000 for one. Not sure how much one of those cost now.
Any one have any idea. All I am finding is the very small ones for like $400.00 |

->> Wow. Thanks Vincent!
But more useful to me would be a "behind-the-curtain" look at the compression and exporting workflow. How do I make sure the finished product keeps all it's HD mojo...? |

->> Thomas,
Litepanels make the LED lighting kits.... http://litepanels.com/
They're still pretty pricey, especially if you get the kit of 4, but you can find them at major camera stores like B&H and Adorama.

->> My setup is very simple.
I shoot with a Canon 5D Mark II with a Beachtek DXA-2 and an Azden SGM-1X shotgun mic. No special tripod — I use a Manfrotto 190XPROB with a 804RC2 head.
In the future, I'm looking at getting a follow focus and a rail. |

->> Joshua,
Thanks to your link, I just realized there's a rebate for the LitePanel Micro Pro I bought last month! $75!! Awesome!
Really appreciate your post....many great products I'd like to eventually add to my kit. I currently use the same video head and LitePanel, obviously.
I've used the Rode VideoMic but currently use the Sennheiser MKE 400: http://www.adorama.com/SEMKE400.html , both seem to work well.
What's your experience with the Rode StereoMic? When and why do you use it?
Also wondering how the Zeiss glass is treating you? How would you compare to the Canon 50 1.2?
Thanks!

->> hey robert,
i use the stereomic when I want to pick up more of an ambient feel with the audio, and the videomic (mini shotgun) when I am trying to isolate conversations.
I love the zeiss glass primarily for its focus ring with a finite start and stop point. I feel like its pretty much as sharp, but physically much smaller and lighter and built for manual focusing. the image is a little cooler and less contrasty too which is good for postproduction. I like to use it when I am shooting with the zacuto quick draw and zfinder. pricey though.
