Rating the Canon camera Models
Jesse Beals, Photographer

->> Ok so most of us on here have been using the Canon models starting from the Canon 1D to the Canon Mark 4.

So of all these we have learned the Mark III is garbage. But how would you rate the other bodies from best to worst? Canon has produced a ton of models since the 1D's came out

Best either the Mark 4 or the Mark 2N?

Worst the Mark 3?

Lets here your thoughts.

->> I've never used a bad copy of the III, but have used several good copies of it.

I'd say the rating is 1d, 1d II, 1d IIn, 1d III, then the 1d IV - each improves upon the last.

->> I think if the rating is based on the specific time period when each camera was introduced, it would have to be the original 1D by a mile. At the time, the 1D was really a ground-breaking camera.

->> This site www.DxOmark.com measures sensors and only sensors (not autofocus etc.) But if you compare the II n to IV there isn't much of a difference except the IV is a little better in low light.

The 1Ds models have better color depth and the 1Ds Mark III has the best rating but only shoots at 5 fps. The best sensor for the money is probably the 5D Mark II with better noise and color depth than the Mark IV but it only shoots at 3.9 fps and only to 3200

Maybe I should send my 5D mark II back into Canon. It shoots at 6400 ISO natively and can be expanded to shoot at 25,600 ISO.

->> Matthew Hinton,

IMHO that place is not even realistic. I have compared files from the Mark II up through the Mark IV. The IV is 2 steps better in ISO then the Mark II and one step better then the Mark III.

And that is with a file that is double the size almost of the Mark IIn.

That test they use is garbage, again this is my honest opinion.

However I am really impressed with the 1DSMkIII

The 5D is the best buy of all of them.
