| ->> Does anyone do sales of Little League baseball teams/players in action? I seem to recall seeing that Little League International has some policy regarding this. I do the T&I pictures for a local organization and they asked if I could come cover a few games so parents could buy action pictures. I believe I have to contact the LL headquarters. Has anyone gone through this? |

->> Randy, here's a past thread that talks about the "issue": http://www.sportsshooter.com/message_display.html?tid=28595 What prompted this was a policy statement from LL entitled "Images of Little Leaguer's on Web Sites". If you go to the LL web site and look in the "Forms & Publications" index you'll see the document referenced... but it's a dead link. I think there's a good reason for that: parts of the policy are silly and unenforceable.
As for photographers hired by the local LLs to do T&I and action photos, the policy is that the photographer hired is expected to adhere to the same policy. Many leagues handle this by adding a photo release as part of the player registration form. There's nothing in there that requires you to contact LL HQ for an "OK".
As for freelancing, you would technically be in violation of the policy (if it in fact still exists) if you didn't receive parental permission prior to posting any images, but I think practically there's little risk of any action being taken from Williamsport unless you do something inappropriate with the photos. But as Andrew said, it would be a good idea to clue in the local LL powers-that-be in on what you're up to. |

->> Thanks for the links...I had just been reading them before I came back to check this thread. I put a call into the International headquarters, but had to leave a message. From what I can understand from their policy (which is not easy to find on their website) the key is that you don't say or show anything in a gallery that the pictures were related to Little League. Can't say "Little League game on {date}" or show a picture of a player that shows their LL patch. I suppose one could always make sure they you take a picture from an angle that doesn't show the patch.
I'm guessing the safest way is to have parents fill out something saying that it is ok. The link to the policy statement is: http://www.littleleague.org/Learn_More/rules/positionstatements/LittleLeagu.... It is different than it is on the old threads. |

->> Randy -
Your link is bad. Here is the good one:
http://www.littleleague.org/learn/rules/positionstatements/LittleLeaguerIma...
"However, if a web site that is not owned or operated by a chartered Little League program wishes to post video or a photograph of a child or children who are identified in some way as Little Leaguers, the operator of the web site must first receive permission to do so from Little League International. Such permission will only be granted if the child’s parent or guardian has provided written permission to do so."
"Many leagues hire photographers and/or videographers, sometimes as fund-raisers. It is highly recommended that the local Little League include this policy statement in any written agreement with the photographer and/or videographer." |

->> Sam Hush!!!
Yup folks no money to be made in youth spec.... nothing to see here...... Consider shooting bugs and flowers ..... or for REALLY big $$ Ducks. Lots and lots of money to be made photographing DUCKS. Also a great way to showoff the resolving power of that new lens or pro body. Feathers have TONS of detail.... People PLEASE photograph DUCKS and leave the youth sports to the fools who are willing to spend days on dusty sun baked fields....
Sam don't you have some DUCKS to shoo....I mean photograph? |

->> Eric - stop giving my secrets away (check my SS page)!
Randy - is the league associated with LL? I know the local league everyone calls it LL but it's not associated with them at all. Of course the league itself does not use LL or anything like that, just how people refer to it. As far as sales, T&I do 1000x better than spec any day back home. |

| ->> Eric, one of the first photos I sold was of a bug. I got more money for a motorcycle picture, so I went that way. |

| ->> Mike: This league is associated with Little League International. I've been trying to find some find to follow up here on SS. I did get a hold of someone at LLI and they had some suggestions, but the majority of everything is left to the local league and the photographer. The LLI "suggestions" were to get photo release forms signed by parents, making sure that all parents knew who I was and that I may be in attendance at some games. I can get these forms put it with the player registration forms so this isn't as difficult as it might sound. The other 'suggestion' was to put all pics in private, password protected, galleries and give the password to the either to the league to distribute to the parents, or give the password to the parents directly. The LLI said all other details (field access, pricing, "kick backs", advertising, etc.) is up to the local leagues. |
