I am using Spyder 3 Elite for calibration, can anyone give advice on how to properly calibrate this monitor?
Settings, etc...
Thanks |

| ->> Matt, I have not been able to get a good calibration with an older spyder, so I just use the built in mac monitor control panel. First thing is to turn the brightness all the way down, then calibrate (I start with the Adobe RGB profile since I shoot and work in that color space) and calibrate using the 'expert mode' of the apple monitor control panel. It works well - prints match up printing on a large HP Z3200 and by sending images out to WHCC for printing. |

I used this frequently when calibrating the 50+ iMacs at the computer lab I used to work at, in combination with an old X-Rite DTP-94. While the iMac screen is extremely bright, and I would agree that it is tricky to get dim enough for a proper calibration, it is important to remember that the brightness setting of the monitor is directly related to your viewing conditions. If you're working in an extremely bright environment, setting the monitor to its dimmest setting would not be ideal. I tend to aim for a brightness around 100-120 cdm^2 for normal indoor conditions.
Feel free to shoot me a message if you have any other questions about calibrating an iMac.
Good luck!

->> Well I went the way of Darron for calibrating. Had around 8 prints made, adjusted some more, more prints made and it was exact match.
My setting right now is two clicks below the middle sunshine bar you see when you adjust the brightness.
For web browsing it is equal to that bottom sunshine mark, two clicks left when doing photo work.
THe Spider 3 Elite for whatever reason gave my monitor a very warm calibration which I did not like. |
