->> Looking for some basic info for the Greensboro Coliseum, Greensboro, NC.
1- basic lighting - average, good, fair, etc.?
2- do they have arena lights pre-hung for rent?
3- are they easy to work with in setting up your own lights?
Any info/comments on the arena are appreciated.
Thank you.

| ->> Ken - Nice even light. ISO 1250 640 @f2.8. No lights pre-hung. Union shop, must pay for an electrician to assist you in setting up lights. Old spiral staircase to the rafters. When are you shooting in the coliseum? |

->> Ken,
I used to have lights in the Greensboro Coliseum when I shot ECHL hockey there from 1999-2003, and at the time they let me hang them myself, but I also had to provide proof that I carried liability insurance. I believe that now they want you to pay to have lights installed, but you will have to contact the coliseum directly to confirm that. There are no lights permanently installed for rent, and the availible light is not too bad (I have shot for Wake Forest in the women's ACC tourmament there for the past 9 years). If I recall I was shooting at ISO 1250, 1/640 2.8, but your mileage may vary.
Hope this helps!

->> Great - thanks to both of you for your prompt info. With that available light, I'll go without setting up lights - no problem.

->> Thanks Marvin for the plug.....We do have a set of 4-Speedotron 2401s with 8-102 heads. They of course are all linked together and have a drop cord to go to the floor. As Mark stated, (and he should know, he used to be the Coliseum photog) it is union building and all strobes to be set up in the arena, has to be done with the help of a local union rigger. They are great, but it can be pricey. I will be putting an ad on SS soon to rent our set of strobes in the next week or so. But the prices will be $100 per game and $500 for the entire week, $750 for both weeks.
While I think the lighting is decent in the coliseum, I do not believe it is great. Both Brian and Mark are right with their ambient light settings. I prefer much higher quality and to me you can't beat shooting at ISO 125, 160 or 200. No matter high you cut it, those ISOs are so much better than 1600. If you want to contact me, please feel free. I would be happy to talk to you . |
