->> If you want a UDMA card, this is a great deal:

16 GIG Transcend Card that reads at 90MB/s and writes at 60MB/s for just $60. That is the same performance as the Sandisk 16GB card that David linked to for about half the price.
I've had great luck with Transcend cards. |

| ->> SanDisk Extremes are dogs. The Transcends (400x) are much better than the "regular" Extreme, and the 600x Transcends are even better. +1 for Transcend Cards (300x and up) from Newegg. Probably the best deals going right now for people using top-tier cameras. |

->> Just to clarify...the SanDisk Extreme Pro cards are great, fastest things out there...it's the Extreme cards that are dogs. Not even close to the published specs in my experience (which are always inflated anyway or measured with some gizmo that isn't anything like an actual camera and/or computer).
Hopefully Galbraith will do his comprehensive tests of the newer cards soon. His initial look at some of the speedsters is here:

I've also looked at many of the newer cards in the D300, although it can't really push the cards in the 500x-600x range like the 5D Mk II can:

->> No offense there, Robin, Lord knows I chisel my purchases more than most people, but I've always wondered about the wisdom of looking for a "deal" on CF cards. Given that the price continues to drop, capacity continues to increase/per dollar, why would anyone risk losing their images on CF card deals? You get what you pay for. This is one thing I just don't fiddle with. Pay the man. It's cheap even with the newest SanDisks, Lexars, etc. How can you sleep using cards from old inventory, dated technology, possible knock-offs...
Go to B&H, peruse the vast selection and make a decision. Sheesh... If you want to discuss reliability, durability, etc. then fine. But "deals"?... Ugh. Run away! |
