->> I have an IMAC G5 (computer #1) loaded with songs in ITunes. My intel Mac (computer #2) has no songs in ITunes. Is there a way to load the songs from #1 on to the IPOD and transfer to #2. I have the IPOD plugged into computer #2 but can't seem to be able to do it

| ->> If you've made the mistake of ripping your CDs as AAC files you'll have "permission" problems. If, however, you've ripped them as simple MP3 files then it's a simple drop and copy situation. |

->> There are ways to transfer from an ipod, but I have had issues with Senuti and other programs erasing my ipod also. The easiest way would be to copy the library to an external drive, then copy from the external to computer two.
The library is in your Home folder, then music, itunes, itunes music. Copy Itunes Music to the drive. Then go and put it on the new computer in the same place. Then add the folder in Itunes. Done. |

->> Debra,
I just did this, I downloaded everything from the Ipod (Iphone actually but basically the same) to a new Itunes library on my macbook, the previous library lived on a dell desktop. I just used Itunes, no other software. Of course I can't remember how I did it. Did you try "transfer purchases"? It's under file in Itunes when you sync to the computer. |

| ->> Do what Chris said. If any of the songs were purchased from iTunes then you will need to authorize computer #2. Go to iTunes and select 'Authorize Computer' under the 'Store' menu. |

| ->> you do need to authorize the new computer to use Itunes, but you should be able to sync everything directly from the Ipod after that. |

->> I used senuti also but the problem I had is it would select certain songs fro albums when it transferred them and the ones it
didn't pick disappeared. it is very irritating the roadblocks apple has put on the tranfer of songs between devices ESPECIALLY when you upgrade. |

->> I'm presuming that, once the transfer is accomplished, you want to only sync your ipod with computer #2. I'm also presuming that you'd like to keep the iTunes data (playlists, etc.).
I've moved my music files and iTunes data from the original hard drive to the replacement drive and when I sync'd the ipod it 'saw' everything the same as it had been. Which seems like what you're wanting to do essentially. Unfortunately I work on PC's not Macs.
Here's what I know - fwiw.
1. Your music, as Chris said, must be in exactly the same place on the new computer.
2. On a PC there are two iTunes files that are essential - iTunes Library (which is a database file) and iTunes Music Library (which is an xml file). I copied these two files to the proper location on the new drive, and then from the ipod's perspective nothing had changed and it continued syncing from the same iTunes setup. I'd bet it's the same on Macs, but don't know for sure, and I don't know where you would find the files on a Mac iTunes setup.
Here's a link to an article at iLounge.com which I think will guide you through this process - it's perhaps excruciatingly thorough and may tell you way more than you wanted to know, but the details matter in order to get things set up the same on another computer.

It's worth the hassle to me as I have a very large library with a bunch of playlists and I also enjoy the ratings and play counts too.
Good luck! |
