Olympic coverage

->> OK. So NBC is up to their usual fluff pieces. Where can I watch the sporting events? I have Verizon Fios. Do any of the other channels just show the sports? Or, is there some online viewing I can watch? Oh, how wish I was in Europe right now watch their coverage of the Olympics.

NBC claims to have 800+ hours of Olympic coverage over various networks. I wonder how much of that actually show athletes competing?

->> Stew,

usually the other networks like Universal Sports usually just show the sports and not all the features of athletes etc.

->> I've actually always been amazed at the lack of coverage Americans get. In comparison to the Canadian networks (regardless of the Olympics being in Vancouver, or in the past where they are elsewhere), we almost always have live coverage on one of the many accessible channels and the main national channel.

->> Here's the Canadian trick... practice your francais and watch the French version of CTV. They show a lot more of the events because they pretty much adopt anybody with a Francophone connection. Plus, I think their budget for talking heads is lower. Either way, we in the frozen North have the option of flipping from NBC to CTV and its French equivalent. If only we could get the BBC coverage of the Olympics... stunning for the Summer games...

I absolutely agree with Stew: I just want to watch the sports.
I took 3 years of French in college. Unfortunately, I don't remember too much, although I can pick out a few words and sometimes get the trend of what they are saying.
Good suggestion Sean!

I have FIOS as well, and I don't have Universal Sports (I get the rest, but they have extrememly limited coverage as well).

In short, the Olympics coverage sucks.

And to think, in some events, Paralympians have DOMINATED Olympic times...

->> USA TODAY is producing a daily video piece that review's the days action and advances the next day.

A lot of our USA TODAY staff photos are being used in these pieces. Today's has a video that I shot with short tracker Apolo Ono a couple of months back. Also the stills used for the "talkers" on speed skaters Shani Davis and Chad Hedrick and figure skating were mostly mine.

It is great use of our staff's photography --- since we cannot use video highlights of the action, the producers have been making very liberal use of the stills our photo staff are making.

We also have three of our video shooters in Vancouver that are making videos around town giving people a look at the sights and sounds of the Olympics.

Check it out if you have time:

->> www.fromsport.com is another good link - I've watched all the Alpine Skiing races there live. The commentators are top notch too, full of course and ski racing knowledge, and they call the races like they call a big soccer match. It's just so much more exciting than what NBC has been showing. Go Bode!
