| ->> There are some amazing photos in this year’s World Press Photo contest winners. And lots of extremely graphic and disturbing photos too. As usual, there are some photos in there I just don’t get. The photo of the year was part of a photo essay that was unusual and quite compelling. I don’t think that’s the one I would have chosen for photo of the year, but I really like seeing what the World Press Photo judges choose. That contest always opens my eyes to other possibilities in photojournalism. |

->> I liked the story it came from, but I don't see how it was awarded photo of the year.
One thing is apparent from looking at everything: converting to black and white, over toning and vignetting will increase you chances of winning. |

Give it up Alex! It's been a year since this http://bit.ly/cVF85j placed third in the Portrait Stories category and I'm still befuddled.
Seeing a series of doll portraits win in a major photojournalism contest makes you realize how "vision" is truly in the eye of the beholder. |
