Writing a contract

->> I'm in the process of penning a contract for a local professional sports team and I am looking for some examples of contracts other photographers are using. I already have the terms, payment, and licenses verbally agreed upon, but I'm having trouble putting this into writing. I've used the ASMP website as a guide up to this point, but I'm wondering if any of you would be willing to share a sample contract of yours with me. Shoot me an email off board if you are so inclined.
thanks in advance,

| ->> A photographer writing a contract is like a lawyer taking a photo. You really don't know what is going to develop. |

->> Is the contract worth a lot of money to you?
Do you not want headaches later?
If yes to both questions go to a local attorney specializing in business or contract law. The few you'll pay for two hours of their time will be way more valuable than the money you spend on equipment insurance. 'nuff said. |

->> Alan - wait a minute here! I'm both! Lol but you are correct and I agree with you and Clark. I have seen so many instances where an agreement is written wrong or leaves out important details that can cause a lot of problems. This is even more important for photographers to protect the rights in your images as much as you can or if you are relinquishing your rights to your photos you should be compensated fairly for the use.
I'm surprised the local sports team doesn't have some type of agreement that they could give to you to take to an attorney. I'm sure they have some type of agreement that they enter into with other vendors or sponsors etc. If not, the you should go to an attorney and have him write an agreement that is very favorable to you but fair. Do not write an agreement by yourself.
I do a lot of contract work and would be happy to look over anything they give you but I'm in FL so I doubt you'd want to stop by my office! :-) |
