->> Just recently aquired the opportunity to shoot with a major sports event company that will necessitate travel throughout the US. Up to this point, my gigs with other companies involved travel without needing anything larger than a 70-200. I could probably find creative ways to include a 200-400 into my TT International, but with the addition of the 600/4 it throws a monkey wrench into my current packing regime, so I need some help.
Here's what I will be needing to pack:
- Nikon 600 f/4 VR II
- Nikon 200-400 f/4
- Nikon 70-200 f/2.8
- 24-70
- 14-24
- SB 900
- (3) pro bodies
- CF cards, batteries, accessories, etc.
- Laptop and accessories
I currently have been getting buy with a TT International and laptop backpack as my personal item. It looks as if I will now need to check one bag dedicated for camera gear.
A Pelican 1620 has been suggested among other ideas. If anyone has been travelling with similar items, please advise. Jobs will start in mid-spring. Thanks. |

->> I'd recommend the Airport Security (carry-on) and an Urban Disguise (personal item). I avoid checking photo gear at all costs.
With that setup, you could split your gear as so:
ASV2:
- Nikon 600 f/4 VR II
- Nikon 200-400 f/4
- SB 900
- (1) pro body
- CF cards, batteries, accessories, etc.
UD60:
- (2) pro bodies
- Nikon 70-200 f/2.8
- 24-70
- 14-24
- Laptop and accessories |

->> For travel within the US, you have more liberal measurement allowances for Carry-on's. My suggestion would be a ThinkTank Airport Security and a Shapeshifter or Streetwalker HD Backpack. The AP Security can take the long glass and a couple bodies. Everything else can fit in the shapefiter.
Will you be taking all the gear with you all the time? If the 600 isn't coming with you to everything, you could fit everything but the 600 and one body, in the AP Int'l, take 1 body in the backpack, and use a long lense case for the 600 when you need it. |

->> I think you could do with an Airport Security and a Streetwalker HD (for a personal item).
Im my AS I take
3 pro bodies
400
70-200
24-70
14-24
17-55
1.4 TC
10.5 FE

In the SWHD I take chargers, 2 SB900s, Laptop with plenty of room left for a 600, 400, or 200-400, |

->> I travel with my big lens (500mm) quite a bit for nature photography and find it really convenient to remove the lens hood from the bag. If you consider doing the same, see if you can find a plastic or foam cap for the end of the 600 to protect the glass. I found some tupperware lids that fit my 500 perfectly, but if that's not an option you can probably also find a foam cap from LensCoat (http://www.lenscoat.com/hoodie-lens-caps-c-5.html) that would work. I have one of those for my 300, and it's also been a nice addition.

| ->> Consider the total weight. Just because you CAN fit everything into one bag, SHOULD you? After a long day of shooting, airport security and other issue, all that gear gets very heavy. |
