portrait tips?
Robby Gallagher, Student/Intern, Photographer

->> I am looking to starting doing outdoor, family and senior portraits. However, when I look at many other people's editing on their images, I do not understand how they do it.

So I was wondering if anyone had tips or techniques in photoshop or just in general on how I can make my images pop, or stand out.

Thanks!

->> How you shoot and edit a portrait really depends on what the subject is.

If you want to learn how to make great portraits, learn how to light great portraits.

Strobist is a good resource for a beginner learning how to light and shoot portraits. Go through David Hobby's lighting 101 and 102 series of lessons.

->> I second that.

my best suggestion is: when you begin shooting, be patient. n't feel like you have to rush and take 5k images in a two hour shoot. take your time getting the look you want with posing and lights.
