Long Lens Rain Covers for $25.

->> It's been wet here all week and typically is pouring for the AT&T Pro Am at Pebble Beach and not owning any rain covers as of yet (though I should really buy a Hydrophobia 70-200), I made a pair for my lenses for this week if it does indeed rain.
I went to the local outdoor store and picked up a semi-cheapo youth rainsuit for $15 and modified it a bit using an absurd amount of gaffer's tape to clean up the edges and double up seams.
I adapted the rain jacket to fit my 300 f/2.8. Cutting the arms down to adapt to my hands for when I'll be holding the lens and having the zipper on the bottom to access the monopod and the hood of the jacket going over my camera body. It'll act similar to a flip up view hood:

I adapted the pants to fit a body with a 70-200 f/2.8 by rolling up one pant leg to fit the length of the lens and the other pant leg on the right for my shutter button hand.
The elastic waist band "closes" up around the body, semi protecting it.

On both, I plan to tape the hood sections down with I fit the lenses in the morning.
All in all, it's no Hydrophobia or Aquatech, but I think it'll work just fine for now, even though it's a bit janky.
The guy at the store was like, "You know this is a youth rainsuit, right?" and I was like, "Yeah, I'm making rain sleeves for my cameras."
I don't think he believed me...

(P.S. - I LOVE gaffer's tape...) |

| ->> I'd use something other than gaffers tape .. it doesn't hold well when it gets wet. |

->> Nic, use duct tape...
After dealing with our dearly departed horse Ginger's founder, we found that duct tape is seriously tough (using anything around horses will show how weak something is). In fact we used so much I developed a reaction to the stuff.
But it holds up well with the weather.

->> Nic,
I have found Gorilla Tape to be more water resistant than duct tape and way more water resistant than Gaffer's tape. You could tape a house together with Gorilla tape.

Target and Home Depot carry it. |

| ->> I've done this in the past too. Never taped anything, I just cut the legs of an adult xl rain suit. I used a sweatband to cinch the leg at the hood and cut holes for a monopod and eye piece. That being said this is a GREAT value http://www.sportsshooter.com/classitem.html?id=29990 |
