Penguins vs Caps goal cam, crushed!

| ->> just wanted to say that whoever had the Nikon in the goal cam box of the Penguins net when Ovechkin scored Washington's 1st goal... I hope it all turned out ok. It's never a pretty sight to see a Multimax hanging out. On the bright side, your camera was on tv. It's famous, I would have Ovechkin sign that body and sell it on eBay now while it's still worth some $$. |

(and I hope the gear's okay!)

->> thanks for posting the link David, interesting (for anyone besides the camera's owner) to see in slow motion. Makes me think of "The Jerk"
The camera!! He hates the camera! |

| ->> From the looks of it, the box isn't securely built. The front panel appears removable and the puck hitting it caused the panel to rebound off of the box. You can flip forward to about 1:28 and see the box being put back together. |

->> It looks like a "Netcam 2.0", built exactly as Thomas said, with the front panel removable (according to the promo video - easier and cheaper to change if it's damaged). And speaking of the video...

->> No offense to Bruce (I know the guy and didn't realize this was his product) but I personally don't trust the design. Yes it will keep your camera safe, but it also has design tendencies similar to an Indy car, where it will break apart while absorbing the impact.
That's fine and all, but this was a wrist shot by Ovechkin and it dislodged the parts. A slap shot or pile of players sliding in the the net will likely produce similar results. I'm sure after a while the league will start to get a little grumpy with all the stoppages in play.
A fix to the design would be to have the plexi panel reshaped to mirror the base. The front attaches the same but the top would mount up against the back plate to prevent torque and rebound. |

| ->> Forgive me if I sound like a "know nothing" that's never set up a goal cam (which would be correct), but my jaw dropped when I saw that it's only Velcro that keeps the front plate from getting jammed back into the camera and/or popped free! I'm amazed that those boxes don't get blasted apart and lenses aren't impacted more often. It must be that the the system mostly relies on the body of the goalie from keeping a directly fired puck out of the region the camera is mounted. |

That was the original design, and the design I still stick with. You can see one of my member galleries for how they look. |

| ->> The funniest thing about the video is the announcer did what announcers usually do and babbled about how much "they" rely on the goal cam. He was totally clueless that it was a still camera that was whacked. I mean the video camera showed the other camera and he was STILL clueless.... |

->> It was the team photog's camera and there was no major damage. a little nick on the lens, but seems to be fine. So far this season that box has been plowed into at least 3 times and has held up without coming apart. Ovie generates more power with his wrist shot than most players due with their slapshots. All in all no harm.

| ->> Oh, for the good old days of just using a roll of white hockey tape to wrap some foam rubber around a Nikon FM2 or a Hasselblad ELX... |
