The Sportsshooter Community...

->> This is a bit OT, but it is one of those things that makes me feel all warm and fuzzy about the Sportsshooter and photojournalism community as a whole.

I'm pretty broke right now; I've got enough to feed myself and put gas in my car (usually), but extraneous spending is out of the question. Basically, 2009 was less than a good year for me. As such, my SS membership was to go the wayside. 30 bucks? That's 2 weeks of gas.

Then I got an e-mail today (Saturday). My membership was already supposed to have expired, but apparently it was still active. I had no clue. Someone had paid for a year of membership for me. I have no idea who did this or even how—it was an anonymous e-mail that informed me of the deed. In the grand scheme of things, it's a small gesture. But it was a great bit of light in otherwise gloomy times.

To the person that did it, thank you. It means more than you know. Now, to not waste such a gift, I have several thousand photos that have gone un-edited and un-posted for too long. I think I'll be getting on that.

2010 is already looking better than 2009. Three job interviews in January (more than I've had since November), some prospective work, and a first-phase phone interview coming up this week. I've been working to keep myself current and expand my experience, and I think it's starting to pay off. It might be slowly, but my situation is turning around. I hope it is for everyone else.
