Who are your favorite SS Shooters?

->> Phil Hawkins is the first name that comes to mind. I'd have to comb through things for the second. Phil's shots of a woman named "Laura" and her horse and some shots he took when he was at Yosemite (?) with an older gentleman and the man's daughter (if I have the story straight - going by memory here) as they watched the sunset in the mountains will always be favorites. There's something in many of Phil's shots that just "grabs" me - or maybe more accurately, "touches" me - which I can't articulate, but which I often see. Check out his landscape shots, too.

If I was going to hire someone to shoot an event or a moment that required someone to capture a certain feel or emotion, Phil's the guy I'd call. The narrative Phil provided to explain the Yosemite shots I referenced above was pretty special, too.
Ok, I've embarrassed Phil enough for now. |

->> This is an interesting topic, Thomas B. !! As has been stated already, there are so many talented shooters among us it's difficult to narrow it down to two.
After, oh...., ten seconds of debate, and I'm basing this on the names that I look for in the updates as "can't miss", and the guys that for one reason or another I'd like to shoot alongside to pick their brains....and to see how they go about their business. For action.... Mark Rebilas. I just enjoy his perspective on sports. For everything else....the above mentioned Phil Hawkins. His landscape and portrait work is amazing !!
Two others that I look for are Robert Beck and one of our SS leaders, Brad Mangin. It seems that no matter what angle Brad is shooting a ballgame from, he comes up with great images. After playing the game for 32 years and shooting it for 23, I know that it can be difficult to be "original", but Brad seems to do just that.
That's my two cents on the subject...though it may not be worth quite that much.

->> Carlos Delgado. We first interned together during my first summer in newspapers, and I've followed his work ever since. Watching a young shooter dive so successfully into the wedding and editorial business in a market like today's, especially in LA, has been particularly encouraging and inspiring.

Melissa Wade. She was the first person to ever give me advice on how to shoot hockey, along with some tips on the business end, all of which I still follow. Melissa produces some of the cleanest hockey (especially college) images you'll see, and her SEO isn't bad either...

->> Since I can not nominate myself.....
I really like Chuck's embedded stuff, I also like G.J's stuff. I can remember looking at his stuff when I really started looking into taking steps to enter into Photo-Jou my senior year in high school and thinking how cool his art was.
I also think Mark Rebilas and Derrick Hingle are GREAT shooters who constantly come back with great images. |

Thanks for the compliment, to be mentioned with the shooters you posted is humbling. Myself, I have long admired the work of Mark Rebilas as well and have improved my own work from seeing his blogs. |
